When an item is galvanised, it specifically refers to the coating present on a nail surface. The process is called galvanisation, where the nails are covered in a protective coating of zinc to ward off oxidation. What roofing nails do I need? For roofing felts, slates, roof sheets you need clout nails. With their distinctive spiral thread shank nails are for hard or dense roofing materials to prevent splitting or breakages. Stainless steel nails are used across tile and slate jobs as well as claddings and fascia. Aluminium nails are great for sheet materials and tiles. They are designed specifically for wood working tasks, such as skirting, architrave, tongue and groove fixing and used with a high-powered nail gun.
