Down the Drain!

Underground systems are essential for managing both rainwater and sewage. These systems consist of various products and components designed to effectively transport and dispose of wastewater and rainwater to prevent flooding and maintain hygiene standards.

A typical underground system includes:

Pipes: U-PVC (Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride) Pipes that are rigid plastic pipes are a lightweight, durable, corrosion and chemicals resistant alternative to clay pipes.

Fittings: Bends to change the direction of pipes. Couplers, to connect two pipes together. Junctions, used at intersections of multiple pipes. Adapters, to connect pipes of different materials or sizes and Reducers, used to transition from larger to smaller pipe sizes or vice versa.

Manholes: Inspection Chambers, to provide access points for inspection and maintenance of the drainage system. They come in various sizes and shapes and can be made of concrete or plastic and Access Covers are for on top of manholes and are typically fitted with access covers that provide a secure and removable lid for entry.

Gullies: Road Gullies, are typically used to collect surface water from roads and paved area and Domestic Gullies, used for collecting rainwater and wastewater from residential properties, both of these have gratings to prevent debris from entering.

Channel Drainage: Channel Drains, are linear drainage systems often installed in driveways, patios, and car parks to collect surface water and direct it into the underground drainage network. They consist of a channel with a removable grate.

Soakaways/Storm Crates: Soakaway Crates: Also commonly called storm crates, they are modular, underground containers used to manage rainwater by allowing it to disperse into the surrounding ground slowly. They help prevent surface flooding.

FAQs

Can I use clay pipes for a modern drainage system?

Clay pipes are still suitable for certain applications but may not be as cost-effective or durable as modern plastic alternatives.

Are soakaway crates suitable for all soil types?

Soakaway crates work well in most soil types, but their effectiveness can vary. Soil testing and design considerations are necessary to determine suitability.
